Embarrassing Tunes

I am doing some housekeeping on iTunes (to benefit my iPod). There are some songs on there that I am always pleasantly surprised to hear but I hope no one else can hear them.

I thought I’d share….

Please share yours in the comments (or on your own blog)

1. The Final Countdown – Europe
2. Don’t Know What You’ve Got – Cinderella
3. I Just Called to Say I Love You – Stevie Wonder
4. Baby I’m Amazed – Lonestar
5. Groove is in the Heart – DeeLite

  1. Okay here are some of my embarassing, but fun, itune songs.1. Baby got back2. Bitch3. When I think about you I touch myself4. Amazed5. Forever and ever Amenand more country than any girl growing up in the North should have!thanks for starting this, Susan!!

  2. Embarrassing? Hmmm off the top of my head I can think of Air Supply, Supertramp, Meatloaf – all make Eric shudder. LOL

  3. What a great little question to have in my head all day. It inspired me to pull out the cassette tape compilations my older sister Rebecca made me in jr. high just to hear “Party All the Time” by Eddie Murphy, which would definitely be on that list.Since I am practically a Luddite, my own list gets its additional embarassing quotient from the decade to which it belongs (now that I think about it–how embarassing to admit this is the music not only of a previous decade but of the past millenium!):*cool it now–new edition*the greatest love/savin’ all my love for you–whitney houston (i don’t even agree with the message in these two songs, but they still are the best back-seat belters)*freedom–george michael (anything Wham would do nicely)*Hello–lionel ritchie *and the song I always had to race to the stereo to turn down if me parents came into hearing: darling nikki–prince. now, that one is a BRILLIANT piece of writing/performing–but I would die if anyone caught me casually listening to it.*here is one just for you, Susan:the champion–carman. c’mon, it is quite in the “final countdown” category, you have to admit!Daelyn, your husband is missing out on Supertramp!!!! School, anyone? But I understand: my own husband is very patient with one of my favorite Getting-Close-To-Jesus cassettes I taped from my parent’s record collection when I went to college: Larnelle Harris “Tell it to Jesus” on one side, “I am Not Ashamed” by the Liberated Wailing Wall (Jews for Jesus) on the other. Awesome music, but really, really dated 70’s genres. : )Lisa

  4. Is Fergalicious embarrassing enough?

  5. How about Living on a Prayer and Oh Sheila? And any song from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack. 🙂 (I lose Jason there.) And my all time favorite 80s song, Come On Eileen.

  6. Thanks for the contributions!I feel much better about my tunes now…..

  7. Sorry it’s taken so long to respond. It’s funny, I don’t find embarrassment over my music selections. I certainly used to, and as a kid would have cringed if anyone had known about certain songs or artists I liked. As it happens, there are certainly artists and songs that someone my age, gender and sexual preference probably *should* be embarrassed about, but I just can’t get up for it. Here’s a selection from my iPod that are definitely high on my favorites list that I would imagine men like me would find embarrassing:- Grace Jones — the album “Inside Story”. I got this as a gift from Marc, a gay man from the dorm I was in Junior year. Great album, nice guy (last I heard he was a flight attendant for United, I kid you not).- Duran Duran — basically their 1980s MTV period, when all of their albums were pretty big hits. I think “Seven and the Ragged Tiger” is probably the lion’s share (ha ha) of the collection I just grabbed from iTunes.- Wham! — I don’t currently actually have a song on my iPod since I lost that tape a million years ago. I remember liking it, but aside from “wake me up”‘s chorus I can’t actually remember any song.- Tears for Fears — I think “Songs from the Big Chair” is a really great album.- Cyndi Lauper (sp?) — I just grabbed “Time After Time” and “Girls just Want to Have Fun” from iTunes. For the life of me I can’t understand how Madonna won the battle of the ripped-clothing ’80s girl-singers over Lauper. Lauper is much more talented as an actual singer.Hmm… I would have thought I’d have come up with more off the top of my head, but that’s all I can think of for now.mqlrh

  8. I share my i-pod with my English classroom so if I click in the wrong place I get serenaded with such gems as “My name is Mr Monkey”…. On that basis, none of your contributions are lame.

  9. I’m past being embarrased, but I sure used to think I was toooo sophisticated. I’ve found a radio station that is non-stop hair bands, and I unshamedly blast Bon Jovi, Poison, Motley Crue, White Snake, and on and on.Today I’m lifing my spirits with Blondie’s greatest hits.
