We’ve decided to take the kids to Disneyworld. We went there two years ago for Nathan’s Make-a-wish trip and they LOVED it! They have been talking about returning there ever since and they want to stay at the Nickelodeon Hotel. Those commercials they run on Nick pay off!

Anyway – we are unsure how long Nathan will feel good enough to enjoy a trip like that and so we are going very shortly!

I am hesitant to look forward to it since after all we have been through I wonder what the chances are that it will actually work out and we will be able to go. We booked a package and added cancellation insurance and so if we have to cancel it will be ok.

My parents will drive down and meet us there and my mom will be taking care of Lauren so the rest of us can have fun. It is not going to be a very fun time for her (Lauren that is).

We decided to just spend the money and pay off the credit card debt in the future but it looks like we will be getting some financial help for the trip which is wonderful.

Nathan might need to start treatment by then but I don’t know what difference a week or two will make at this point. I think that we will just have begun figuring out what to do when we leave anyway. We can start when we return. I hope his disease cooperates and lets him feel good for this trip. He deserves a whole lot of fun!

Anyway – keep fingers crossed that this will work out. We NEED a vacation!
We are also hoping for warm enough weather to swim since the hotel has a waterpark at it. If it is too cold to swim outside the kids will be heartbroken. Luke thinks we will just have to buy us all wetsuits!

  1. I’m just around the corner from there and most days it has been in the 70s and 80s since Thanksgiving weekend so you should be able to swim.We went to the “Mouse House” over Thanksgiving and took a 3 month old, 6 month old, 2, 3, & 4 year old and all except the youngest baby seemed to have fun (thank goodness we had front packs) but even the baby loved “It’s a Small World” so Lauren should have a decent time. We had taken the 4 year old days after his 1st birthday and he seemed to love most of the rides (again front pack was heaven!) so……..I’m praying for a wonderful trip (whenever it is) for you and your family.

  2. I’ve sic-ed the kids on My Honey since Alaska Air started their kids fly free campaign to Disneyland. I even drew a chart with the kids heights and posted a print out of the ride restrictions so Honey could see. ;)If all works out we’ll go this May for three days with my folks. The hotel we’re looking at the kids also stay and eat all meals for free. So basically we’re just paying for adults.I hope Nathan will be feeling well for your trip. But for some reason I have a feeling if he’s not feeling well, he’ll push it aside, because it’s DISNEYWORLD!!!xoxo

  3. I will pray that Nathan will be up to it, but like ~A~ says something about Disney makes kids just happy. I have heard that hotel is incredible and my kids have been wanting to go. Anyway, I hope everything goes along smoothly. I think of your family daily! HUGS! Chrissy (Mommyof3LilAngels)

  4. We did the Disney World thing as a large family (him, myself, a 1 year old, a 3 year old, DH’s parents, My parents, his sister) in 2000 when my DH was diagnosed with terminal cancer. When he didn’t feel well his response was I’d rather be sick in Disney World than any place else. We had a blast. Speak to the “cast members” they’ll help him get to the front of theline and make sure his trip is as wonderful as it can be. And of course, those under 3 eat and stay free… Have a wonderful trip. Give the mouse a big hug!

  5. I do hope that you’ll be able to go, and that you’ll all have a blast. It is time you had some frivol in your lives and you deserve a small break in your battle.

  6. I agree that Nathan will probably push his pain or exhaustion aside to enjoy the trip. I have no idea what time frame you guys are looking at or how quick his cancer will be, but I have such a good feeling that you will be going to Disney and will have a great time.Susan, I have no idea what you are feeling. I can only imagine how hard it is to deal with your feelings and stay positive and function in real life.I think about you, Luke, Nathan and the girls several times every day. Please let me know if there is anything that we can do to help. I’ll take an IOU on a coffee night.xoxoKate
